About the Director

Sayaka started learning the piano at the age of 3. After moving to Canada, Sayaka received Associate of Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto (ARCT) in Piano Performance and the Advanced Certificate of Early Childhood Education in Music from Royal Conservatory of Music (RCM). Sayaka has been teaching piano in Toronto for 20 years.  In 2017, she founded Sayaka Music Studio at the Japanese Canadian Cultural Centre. Sayaka helps students develop potential, build a foundation, and love for life-long music making. Her students have regularly achieved high standings in RCM exams and awards in various festivals. Now the studio offers piano, vocal, drum, and guitar private lessons and group lessons for babies, toddlers, and preschool children. Sayaka has been an active soloist in numerous concerts and a piano accompanist for the Japanese female choir Chor Trillium since 2006.

We believe everyone is musical. Our goal is that students enjoy music for their life time – we help students to play their favourite music as well as encouraging them to learn basic musical knowledge.

Our mission is to serve children to develop human potential through music education by helping deepen their appreciation for music and building a foundation for life-long music making.

Our teachers are highly qualified, taught and trained both in Japan and Canada. Each teacher customizes the lesson to meet the student’s musical interest and helps enjoying music for your life.

  • Sayaka Morita his a very talented teacher who teaches piano with love and passion for music. She is excellent with small children to teenagers as she has a warm character and knows how to bring out the best in each child. My daughter who is in her 20's now was taught by Sayaka from pre-teen to teenager. Thanks to Sayaka, she still enjoys playing the songs taught by Sayaka back then. I am very grateful that my daughter has acquired a hobby she enjoys and hopefully for many more years!

  • It is with great pleasure and honor I write this testimonial. It is my as well as my children’s privilege to have gotten to know Sayaka so well. I have three children, currently aged 13, 11 and 9. All three of them got their foundation in piano from Sayaka. Each one of my children started learning piano when he or she was 4 years old. I cannot think of a better teacher to introduce piano to any child, especially to a child so young. Sayaka is elegance, poise, grace, patience and musical knowledge embodied. All my kids loved being and learning in her presence. She greeted each one when he/she went for the lesson as if he/she was the most honored guest and gave undivided attention for the time he/she spent with her. This was not just towards my children, I witnessed this with every child Sayaka received.  Sayaka organized two piano recitals a year to give an opportunity for peers to listen to each other, for parents to see the progress of their child, and for children to get a sense of the stage. Throughout the recital, Sayaka would be fully supportive of the child. She never showed any displeasure whatever the caliber of performance it was. But because they were Sayaka's students the caliber was pretty high anyway. I had never seen Sayaka lose patience, be rude or upset with a single child. Whether the child had practiced or not, whether the child came in a good mood or a surly mood, Sayaka, knew how to get the child to give the best output. When the child left her studio, even a child who entered not in a particularly good mood, left with a very good mood and sense of time well spent. When I saw my children with Sayaka, I wished that my experience with my own piano teacher could have been like that. It was anything but. Mine was the typical experience of many piano learners of my generation; An extremely strict teacher who was displeased and was only too willing to show the displeasure. My oldest one had come up to RCM Grade 7 and the 2nd one to RCM Grade 6, when Sayaka had to go on a maternity leave. This is the only reason why I had to find another teacher for my children. I would recommend Sayaka as teacher of piano with all my heart and my mind. She brings out the best in every child, listens and appreciates each child for the unique way in which he/she perceives and expresses music. I wish her the best!

  • My two daughters have been taking piano lessons with Sayaka Music Studio since they were four years old. Now they are 13 and 11, and they are both still enjoying it. I strongly believe my daughters have enjoyed playing piano so much and for so long because Sayaka is a kind, patient and encouraging teacher. My daughters have developed a love for music that is due in large part to the wonderful learning experience they have had so far with Sayaka Music Studio.

Piano lessons lasted for 12 years ever since my twins started to play around age 5.

Because I thought it is important to have a balance between sports and music, especially learning piano by Japanese teacher was very important to kids who were born in Canada. Although both of them quit piano due to university,

I took over the privilege to continue piano lesson because I used to play classical music. Now I enjoy playing jazz and some popular music. It is good for my brain to move fingers as well.
